GRINNELL COLLEGE ALUMNI TRIP
CLASSICAL GREECE: ATHENS TO OLYMPIA AND DELPHI
JUNE 16-25, 2014
It is with great pleasure that we relaunch the Grinnell Alumni Travel Program with a return to Greece! In June 2014, join us as we discover the birthplace of creative genius that shaped the heart of Western civilization.
Our itinerary, designed and led by Jerry Lalonde, professor emeritus of classics, begins amid the majestic ruins of ancient Athens then continues from Homer’s Mycenaean fortresses to the classical sites of Delphi, Olympia, and Corinth. Traveling by private bus, you will visit archaeological sites and museums throughout the country, including a visit to the Island of Aegina with its fifth-century Temple of Aphaea. Through insightful and thought-provoking discussions with Professor Lalonde and our Greek hosts and guides, Eleni and Stelios Zachariou, you will examine the significance of Greek architecture, drama, politics, and philosophy in the development of the modern world.
